What exactly is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that helps people make positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. Here’s how it works in simple terms:
Imagine you’re in a super relaxed state, like when you’re daydreaming or just about to fall asleep. In this state, your mind is more open to suggestions and ideas.
A hypnotherapist will guide you into this relaxed state, and then make positive suggestions to help you overcome issues like anxiety, fears, or bad habits. The whole aim of the process is to help you see things in a new light which will naturally cause you to think and behave in a more positive way.
How does hypnotherapy help me see things in a new more positive light?
The goal is to re-programme your subconscious mind (the part of your brain that works beneath your conscious awareness) to adopt healthier patterns of thinking and behaving. This can lead to lasting changes and improvements in your life.
Hypnotherapy isn’t mind control or magic; it’s simply a powerful tool to help you tap into your own inner strength and potential.
The process.
Curiosity without judgement is the key for transformational growth. During our sessions together we will create a space where you feel safe to explore your inner world and gain a better understanding of your response to the outer world.
Capacity
Generally this happens within the first 1-2 sessions. Here we empty out the emotional pot to make space for new habits, beliefs and patterns.
Healing
Here old wounds are unpacked with love and understanding in order for the body’s natural healing process to take place.
Change
This is where the magic happens, this is where we talk about attracting abundance, love and light into our lives.
***The sole aim of what we do is to restore you to a state of peace and calm.***
Why online?
All hypnotherapy sessions are conducted online because the success of hypnotherapy relies heavily on one crucial factor: relaxation.
The more relaxed you are, the more your conscious mind will allow access to your subconscious mind, enabling it to absorb the healthier suggestions made during the session.
With an online session you can bypass the stress of travel time, directions and traffic, not to mention the energy required to get comfortable in your new surroundings. These distractions can be detrimental to the state of relaxation required for effective hypnotherapy, especially if you are an anxious person.
Being in your own private space means you feel safe, comfortable and in control of your environment. Thus the session is more effective and you will see the benefits sooner.
The first session & beyond.
We start with a comprehensive assessment where we will discuss your story in detail so I can get an understanding of how I can help you, and if we can work together.
During this time I will aim to calm any fears you might have about the process, understand your struggles and help you figure out your goals.
It is important to me that you feel at ease throughout because trust between therapist and client is vital for hypnotherapy to work.
The second part is the hypnosis which takes about 30 mins. This is a peaceful experience which I am sure you will enjoy. You will finish up feeling rested, alert and refreshed.
Subsequent sessions take an hour. We will begin with a quick check in to see how you are progressing and if any changes need to be made to your healing plan before we begin the hypnosis.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you will need depends on the issue you would like to address, for example smoking cessation and phobias can generally be addressed in 1-2 sessions whereas deeper issues such as self esteem and anxiety will take longer. It’s worth remembering that many issues were not created in an hour or two and so may take longer to move past.
In general a block of 4 sessions is recommended. You will always be treated in the minimum amount of sessions.
However if you do just 1 session or choose to work with me on a regular basis, you are beginning a path of transformational growth.

My Story
Hi I’m Heather,
I am a healer and hypnotherapist and my aim is to assist you in unlocking your infinite potential.
My journey began as a yoga teacher in 2008 in India, the US and South Africa. Here I met many different types of people and saw how alternative health practices can enhance the quality of our lives with no harmful side effects.
The natural progression from there, was to train as an energy healer, which thanks to a very special teacher, was the foundation of what I now understand is my calling.
My exploration of healing with plant medicine added another string to my bow and further enriched my practice, which allows me to integrate natural wisdom into therapeutic sessions.
I was drawn to hypnotherapy because it is an effective method of experiencing lasting changes in life in a very gentle way. What I love most and what keeps it interesting for me is the wide range of areas in which it can enrich our lives, from anxiety and self worth issues to sports performance, smoking cessation and binge eating. Whatever it is, I am here to support you with empathy and expertise.
Alongside my journey with alternate health I ran a distance education business for 14 years. I have been married to Reg since 2014 and have 2 young children, so not only do I understand all too well the stresses and strains of daily life, but also the peace and joy we can experience from cultivating fulfilling relationships with the people we love through healthy life practices.

Fun Facts
Things you should know about hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis fact sheet
- Hypnosis is a way of inducing a relaxed state of concentration. During which the conscious, critical mind is relaxed and relatively inactive allowing access to the subconscious or inner mind which is more receptive to acceptable, beneficial suggestions.
- Through direct access to the subconscious, suggestibility is heightened, mental absorption is increased and the imagination is activated in a controlled manner.
- Hypnotherapy is the treatment of making direct contact with the subconscious mind and updating / changing or reframing belief systems / patterns that are no longer beneficial.
- The requirements for success in hypnosis are mainly the desire to be hypnotised and to experience hypnosis, the ability to concentrate, the willingness to co-operate and follow instructions, and the relative absence of mistrust and fear.
- No one can be hypnotised against their will. You must be a willing subject. Your hypnotist must have your full co-operation. Hypnosis is a collaborative and co-operative teacher-student relationship. A hypnotised subject cannot be made to do anything she is not willing to do.
- The hypnotised subject or client is not asleep. When a person is under hypnosis, she or he is relaxed and aware of his/her surroundings. S/he hears the sound of the hypnotist’s voice and will consciously remember more or less all that the hypnotist says. The hypnotised subject or client is relaxed, comfortable and focused. S/he is in a daydream type state. His or her analysing thinking mind (conscious mind) is relaxed turned down and his/her feeling, intuitive and creative mind (subconscious mind) is aware of everything that is going on.
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool, but it cannot
- Change Unwilling Minds: Hypnotherapy relies on the individual’s willingness to make changes. If someone is not motivated or does not believe in the process, hypnotherapy may be less effective.
- Guarantee Instant Results: Hypnotherapy can be effective, but it’s not a magic wand. Some issues may require multiple sessions and additional therapeutic work. Instant or miraculous changes are often temporary.
- Control Others: Hypnotherapy cannot make someone do something against their will or ethical beliefs. It cannot be used to manipulate or control others.
- Erase Memories: While hypnotherapy can help with reframing or changing the perception of memories, it cannot erase memories. It can help individuals process and cope with past events, but it does not delete them. In essence hypnotherapy can decrease the ‘charge’ of a difficult memory in order to lessen its effect.
- Work Without Collaboration: For hypnotherapy to be effective, the individual needs to actively participate and collaborate with the hypnotherapist. It is not a passive or automatic process.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is completely safe. Your therapist will spend plenty of time explaining the process, answering your questions and understanding exactly how s/he can help you. Through this process you will feel safe and nurtured, which aids positively for the healing journey.
Can I get stuck in a hypnotic trance?
No, hypnosis is a temporary and natural state of focused attention and relaxation. In fact we go into this state many times a day , when we are watching TV or driving a familiar route. If you were to be left alone during a session, you would naturally return to your normal state of consciousness on your own within a few minutes.
In the rare instance where someone might feel disoriented or confused upon waking from hypnosis, it’s usually because they were deeply relaxed. This feeling typically passes quickly.
Will I be unconscious during hypnotherapy?
No, you will not be unconscious. While in a state of hypnosis, you are fully aware of your surroundings and can hear and respond to the hypnotherapist. It’s a state of focused relaxation rather than sleep.
Can I be hypnotised against my will?
No! Hypnosis requires your active participation and cooperation. You remain in control throughout the process and can choose to return to full awareness at any time.
How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required can vary depending on the issue being addressed. With issues such as smoking cessation, the change can be seen in just a few sessions.
We take a more indepth view of deeper seated issues relating to self worth and identity. For issues such as this, treatment is broken down into 3 components ( creating capacity, healing and change work) This requires roughly 4 – 7 sessions.
Many clients choose to see their growth and transformation as an ongoing process, having regular monthly sessions.
Are the results of hypnotherapy permanent?
Further to the above question, provided enough healing work has been done, the changes will be permanent.
