What exactly is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses hypnosis to create meaningful change in how you think, feel and respond.

During hypnosis, your attention becomes more focused and absorbed. This can help you move beyond usual analytical thinking and explore an issue from a different perspective.

Rather than simply giving positive suggestions, hypnotherapy can work with beliefs, emotions and automatic patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Depending on the issue, we might revisit an experience, reduce its emotional charge or rehearse a healthier response.

The aim is to make more useful responses feel familiar, so they become easier to access in everyday life.

How does it help me see things differently?

Hypnotherapy can help you step outside familiar patterns and experience an issue from a different perspective.

By working with the thoughts, emotions and responses connected to an experience, we can begin to loosen patterns that are no longer helping you.

The aim is not to erase the past or tell you what to think. It is to help create healthier ways of responding that feel increasingly natural and familiar.

This can lead to lasting changes in the way you think, feel and behave, while helping you access more of your own inner resources.

The process.

Generally this happens within the first 1-2 sessions. Here we empty out the emotional pot to make space for new habits, beliefs and patterns.

Here old wounds are unpacked with love and understanding in order for the body’s natural healing process to take place.

This is where the magic happens, this is where we talk about attracting abundance, love and light into our lives.

Why choose online hypnotherapy?

All hypnotherapy sessions are conducted online because the success of hypnotherapy relies heavily on one crucial factor: relaxation.

The more relaxed you are, the more your conscious mind will allow access to your subconscious mind, enabling it to absorb the healthier suggestions made during the session.

With an online session you can bypass the stress of travel time, directions and traffic, not to mention the energy required to get comfortable in your new surroundings. These distractions can be detrimental to the state of relaxation required for effective hypnotherapy, especially if you are an anxious person.

Being in your own private space means you feel safe, comfortable and in control of your environment. Thus the session is more effective and you will see the benefits sooner.

Your first session & beyond.

We start with a comprehensive assessment where we will discuss your story in detail so I can get an understanding of how I can help you, and if we can work together.

During this time I will aim to calm any fears you might have about the process, understand your struggles and help you figure out your goals.

It is important to me that you feel at ease throughout because trust between therapist and client is vital for hypnotherapy to work.

The second part is the hypnosis which takes about 30 mins. This is a peaceful experience which I am sure you will enjoy. You will finish up feeling rested, alert and refreshed.

Subsequent sessions take an hour. We will begin with a quick check in to see how you are progressing and if any changes need to be made to your healing plan before we begin the hypnosis.

How long will it take for me to see a difference?

Many people notice something after their first hypnotherapy session. They may feel lighter, calmer, clearer or less emotionally weighed down.

Some people find that old memories or feelings come back more easily. Others become more aware of patterns they had not noticed before, or respond differently to situations that would usually trigger them.

The first changes are not always dramatic. Sometimes it is simply a sense that something has shifted and a familiar reaction no longer feels quite as strong.

To prepare for your session:
  • Create a space where you will not be disturbed and can relax in a seated or lying down position.
  • Make sure your internet connection is strong enough for a clear video call and keep your camera on throughout the session.
  • This builds rapport and enables me to monitor your breathing and subconscious bodily changes while you are under hypnosis.
  • Turn your phone to silent before the session begins.
  • Login on time.
  • Make sure you have some quiet time after the session.
Tips for a life changing hypnosis journey:
  • Be sure you want to make the changes in your life.
  • Keep an open mind but ask as many questions as you like to calm your fears so that you are able to relax completely.
  • The more relaxed you are, the more easily the changes are made within the subconscious mind.
  • Be open and honest with your therapist, so that your session can be tailored to your needs and desired outcome.
  • The process of growth and transformation may not always be smooth but it will be worth it.

My Story

Hi I’m Heather,

The aim is to assist you in unlocking your infinite potential and the main tools I use are intuition and hypnosis.

My journey began as a yoga teacher in 2008 in India, the US and South Africa. Here I met many different types of people and saw how alternative health practices can enhance the quality of our lives with no harmful side effects.

The natural progression from there, was to train as an energy healer, which thanks to a very special teacher, was the foundation of what I now understand is my calling.

Exploration of healing with plant medicine added another string to my bow and further enriched my practice, which allows me to integrate natural wisdom into therapeutic sessions.

I was drawn to hypnotherapy because it is an effective method of experiencing lasting changes in life in a very gentle way. What I love most is the wide range of areas in which it can enrich our lives, from anxiety to sports performance, binge eating to discovering your life purpose. Whatever it is, I am here to support you with empathy and expertise.

Alongside my journey with alternate health I ran a distance education business for 14 years, and I am a wife and mother of two small children. So all told I understand the pressures of everyday life, and how easily stress can affect our wellbeing and relationships.

My own experience has reinforced the value of creating more calm, connection and fulfilment in the way we live and relate to the people around us.

Things you should know

What is hypnosis and how does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and deep relaxation in which you become less distracted by the outside world and more absorbed in your internal experience.

Hypnotherapy uses this focused state therapeutically to explore and work with thoughts, beliefs, emotional responses and patterns of behaviour that may no longer be helping you.

Rather than simply telling you what to think, hypnotherapy can help you experience things differently, rehearse new responses and make healthier ways of thinking and responding feel more familiar.

What does hypnosis feel like? Will I be unconscious?

No. You are not unconscious or asleep during hypnotherapy.

Most people feel deeply relaxed, comfortable and focused while remaining aware of what is happening around them. You can hear the hypnotherapist, respond when needed and bring yourself back to full alertness at any time.

People often compare the experience to becoming absorbed in a book, film or daydream; relaxed, but still aware.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnotherapy is considered a safe therapeutic approach when used appropriately.

You remain aware and in control throughout the session. Before we begin, we will discuss the process, what you would like to work on and any questions or concerns you may have.

Feeling comfortable with both the process and your hypnotherapist is an important part of creating the conditions for effective therapeutic work.

Can I be hypnotised against my will?

No. Hypnosis requires your participation and cooperation.

You cannot be forced into hypnosis against your will, and you remain able to accept or reject suggestions throughout the session.

Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. You bring your willingness to explore and make changes, while the hypnotherapist guides and facilitates that process.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No.

Hypnosis is a temporary state of focused attention and relaxation. You can return to normal alertness whenever you choose.

If a session were interrupted, you would naturally return to your usual state of awareness or simply drift into ordinary sleep before waking normally.

What can hypnotherapy not do?

Hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for change, but it is not mind control and it is not a magic wand.

It cannot:

  • force somebody to change when they do not want to
  • make you act against your values or wishes
  • control or manipulate you
  • erase memories
  • guarantee instant or miraculous results
  • do the work without your participation

Hypnotherapy can, however, help you change the way you respond to past experiences, reduce the emotional intensity attached to certain memories, explore unhelpful beliefs and patterns, and develop more constructive ways of thinking, feeling and responding.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

The number of hypnotherapy sessions you need will depend on what you would like to work on, how long the pattern has been present and the depth of the work involved.

Some focused issues may respond within a small number of sessions.

Deeper work involving anxiety, self-worth, identity or long-standing emotional patterns often benefits from a broader process. This may involve creating emotional capacity, addressing underlying experiences and then building new beliefs, responses and patterns.

For more in depth work like that, a block of 4 sessions is recommended. You will always be treated in the minimum amount of sessions.

However if you do just 1 session or choose to work with me on a regular basis, you are beginning a path of transformational growth.

Are the results of hypnotherapy permanent?

Hypnotherapy aims to create changes that become increasingly integrated into the way you think, feel and respond.

How lasting those changes are will depend on the issue being addressed, the depth of the therapeutic work and how new responses are reinforced in everyday life.

The aim is not simply to create a temporary feeling of change during a session, but to help new ways of responding become increasingly natural and familiar over time.
